I know graphics aren’t the end all be all, bu don’t you think there’s something amiss when Tales of Berseria, a game released on PS4 in 2016 in Japan, looks objectively worse than Final Fantasy XIII, a game released on PS3 in Japan in 2009?! I mean, as if the look of the last five games didn’t already give that away. Which is something that I don’t think Bandai Namco is actually interested in doing.

(For comparison’s sake, Atlus put damn near their entire PS2 catalog on PS Classics.)Īnd look, I get it, Nintendo can be bad at this stuff too, but I’m just saying they’d actually advertise the damn games. Y’know, unless we’re counting Symphonia, but if you wanted say, Destiny, Eternia, Abyss, or even Legendia? Well, you were SOL. During the entire lifespan of the PS3, they didn’t put a single fucking legacy Tales game on the PS classics library. I really don’t care about prices re: if Nintendo had these games, if only because Namco hasn’t done a fucking thing about them either. They had a chance to introduce Switch players to Berseria in 2017 right after its worldwide release on PS4 and PC, and they just had no interest in doing it. Because of all the times they’ve rereleased an older game in America, there’s seemingly at least three they left behind in Japan. I just look at it like this: Bamco clearly has no interest in letting us filthy Americans play their older stuff. Like, I know that Nintendo of America had an anti-JRPG phase for a few years, but I also feel like if Nintendo had Tales under their umbrella, they would, y’know, market the damn games. Sometimes I wish that Nintendo was able to buy Tales Studio and Monolith Soft.

They didn’t even get a digital release years later like what Capcom did with Breath of Fire III’s PSP port (which was also originally localized only in Europe but not North America). They also ported four mainline Tales games to the PSP (Phantasia, Eternia, Destiny 2, and Rebirth), but they localized none of them in North America. I feel like one of the (admittedly many) reasons why people pushed back on Graces is because it introduced a combat system that was never seen before in a localized Tales game, and we should’ve gotten Rebirth or Destiny DC before that.

Vesperia only got a modern update because it’s “the popular one”, but fans of games that aren’t that, Zestiria, or Berseria got fucked this gen.Īnd that’s not even just this gen, either.
